Baltimore Recycle Overview

Recycling has many benefits AND it’s the easiest way for Baltimore City residents to get green.

Did you know that Baltimore City has one of the most comprehensive residential recycling programs in the country? From plastics to electronics, car oil to hazardous materials, Baltimore City is working hard at staying at the forefront of responsible and smart recycling.

In January 2008, we introduced single-stream recycling. Our goal was to make household recycling easier for residents by simplifying collection schedules and eliminating the need to sort materials. Now, all of your recyclable materials can be set at curbside together. We’ve even added to the acceptable materials list to include more plastics.

TRASH IS CASH - Don’t throw money away!

Collected and processed materials bring revenue to the City AND reduce the volume of trash and incinerator ash in our landfill – cash savings for your City.

Once your recyclables are processed at the Waste Management Recycle America facility and baled, they are then sold on the open market to companies who re–purpose the materials to be used again. Paper is turned into new boxes and paper and aluminum cans and glass can be recycled forever back into aluminum and new glass products. Plastic is melted and made into new bags and even park benches!
