Baltimore City offers residents a comprehensive electronics recycling program with a drop-off location close to your home. The program is contracted through a local Baltimore company. Collected electronics are either refurbished for re-use or dismantled and disposed of in accordance with U.S. Environmental Protections Agency (EPA) guidelines.
Electronics should always be recycled because they often contain toxins that leach from landfills into the environment. According to the U.S. Environmental Protections Agency (EPA), 80% of electronics get dumped into landfills rather than disposed of properly. P.C. monitors and T.V. picture tubes alone contain on average four pounds of lead!
The following electronics can and should be ‘ecycled’; cell phones, chips and cards, circuit boards, computer processing units (CPUs), electronic phones, keyboards, laptops, mice, monitors, televisions (any type), printers, printer cables, power cords and scanners.
So, collect your outdated electronics in a box and stop by one of the following locations www.baltimorecity.gov/government/dpw/recycle/dropOff.php. Most locations are open Monday to Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, check times.
