RECYCLE!

We want every household in Baltimore to help us get recyclables out of the waste stream and back in the loop.  Your Bureau of Solid Waste is re-examining the way we deliver recycling services.  If you have ideas on how to improve recycling and encourage more residents and businesses to participate, please contact us at info@cleanergreenerbaltimore.org.

Source Reduction and Reuse

Reducing waste at the source is the easiest and most efficient way to go green.  Source reduction means that you can eliminate waste by starting with less packaging and materials.  There are many ways to participate in source reduction:

  • Purchase products with zero or little packaging: for example, buying bulk products saves both waste and money
  • Buy durable, reusable products: for example, choose glass over plastic whenever possible and reuse your glass jars to store leftovers, homemade preserves and vegetables, or as a flower vase
  • Take only what you need: for example, instead of taking five extra napkins with your sandwich try taking just one or two

Recycling is our last chance to reuse materials.  Before you call 311 for Bulk Trash Service, take a closer look.  For gently- used clothing, furnishings and household goods – take it to a donation center – or call one that will pick your items up right at your door:

Please visit www.baltimorecity.gov or check your DPW Service Calendar for details on how we currently provide recycling service in your area.

Contact 311 if you have experienced problems with pick up of recyclable materials.
